Building a Proper Fire

One aspect of easy home maintenance is building a fire in the fireplace – a luxury today, where it was a necessity in the past. When you’re building your fire, make sure that the chimney flue is open to ensure airflow in your unit. Next, stack your logs on top of the metal holder, adding things such as crumpled newspaper and a few sticks for kindling. You can either light it with a long match or one of those super-long lighters for barbecues and candles.

A roaring fire is cozy and makes the cold nights seem a little less frigid during the winter months. Enjoy your fireplace to its fullest extent; just remember to use safety precautions and make sure the fire is fully extinguished before bedtime.
